It's a 4Q Finish for 1Q '14!

I have a 4th quarter finish!!  Yay!  One crossed off my list!  Whoooohoooo!  (Yes, there is some alliteration going on there.  Hehehe.)

This quilt was made with a very cool pattern by Debby Kratovil called Sugarloaf.  We started this quilt one night at our CCMQG in a class taught by Jessica.  I decided to do mine with a fat quarter of hand dyed brights I had stashed from Connecting Threads.  Well, it is definitely bright!  I also decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to practice my free motion skills on my longarm.  I also practiced doing ruler work and stitch in the ditch.  Stitch in the ditch can be quite the challenge on a regular sewing machine (thank goodness for the edge foot) and is even more so on a long arm - at least for me, anyway.

I used Superior Thread King Tut #921 variegated thread.  It is a bright, colorful thread!

Colorful, eh??!!

Friday Finishes!

Okay, I admit that I keep thinking that somehow 'life' is going to get less complicated after I get ____ (fill in the blank) done.  But it doesn't.  When I get one project done, another one (or two) are added.  By me.  I totally do this to myself.  But I love it!  Wouldn't want it any other way.

In our MQG, Jessica taught us how to make The Sugarloaf Quilt by Debby Kratovil.  Yes, I came home and finished mine.  I went shopping in my stash and found some bright, hand dyed rainbow fabrics for mine.  Yes, it IS very colorful and bright!

Quilt top is finished.  Now, how to quilt it?!?  It will be a little while til I can get it upstairs and loaded on.  Presently, I am working on this quilt for a talented customer:

It is her first quilt!  I am so impressed!

AND, I have been commissioned to make a full size quilt.  Here is one block with all the pieces.

The pattern is Midnight Sky by Michael Miller Fabrics done in the Constellations Fabrics by Lizzy House (Andover Fabrics).  The unfinished block size is 12.5".  Lots of flying geese in these blocks.

I have three quilts quilted with one almost done with the binding being hand sewn on.  (Not my favorite part of quilting - hand sewing on binding.)  Hope to finish two of those tonight with pictures coming!

This is just the sewing part of my life.  The other parts are just as crazy.  But, really, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Sew far, sew good,
Julie

Working on Good Luck!

Can one really work on good luck?  I don't think so.  I am talking about my Good Luck quilt.  Right now, she is in the process of being quilted by Betsy the longarm.  (Please check out my Creekside Quilting blog.)

I am having a lot of fun!  But boy, am I busy!  I would love to quit my day job.  That one pays the bills, so I won't be anytime soon.  : (

I am also working on my July and August Tula Pink 100 Modern Blocks.  Will post more later.

My Good Luck is Finished?

Okay, it's getting to be the end of the month and I have a finish of sorts that I would like to share.  Here is a picture of my Good Luck quilt before I added the borders.

Today was a busy and productive day.  My husband and I cleaned out our FROG (finished room over the garage).  It had become our dumping ground for luggage, boxes, worn out computers, outdated electronics...oh, it was a mess!  So we spent most of the day getting rid of stuff.  (This means more room for stash!)  My sewing time was limited.  But I did get the rest of the sashing sewn on and the rows all pieced.

Here is a picture of it with the borders on.  It is on a full size bed (in the clean, dejunked FROG).

I hope to get the backing pieced and sewn together tomorrow.  Then the top and back of the quilt will be put away for machine quilting later.  (There is a really great reason the FROG got cleaned out!  I am so excited!)  And I am really hoping that my Good Luck that is finished is just the quilt top.

Good Luck Quilt in Progress

Will this quilt bring me good luck?  Should I buy lottery tickets?

I have been working on this one in the mornings before I go to work.  So far, I have the first two rows pieced together with sashing.  When I bought the Kona Coal I was a little concerned if it was too dark.  I like it!  Here is how it looks:

All four rows in the bottom photo.  It has a border and will end up at 79" x 79".  The pattern is from Debby Kratovil's book Supersize 'Em.  She taught this class at the Raleigh, NC Sewing Expo.  (See my earlier post.)

I hope to get the top finished before we have guests come to stay with us next week!
