Quilt Shops!

Okay, I admit it.  When I go out of town, I check out the quilt shops!  Yes, I even have an app that shows me where quilt shops are in the world.  Unfortunately, or fortunately, I can't buy a whole lot because of space in my luggage issues.  Here is a wonderful pillow I found at one of my favorite quilt shops Pine Needles at Gardner Village:

I sent a picture of this embroidered dish towel to my daughter - she has two young children:

My other favorite shop is one in Logan, Utah (my old stomping grounds - and we are talking old here).  My Girlfriends Quilt Shoppe  Upstairs, this was on the wall.  Totally appropriate, don't ya think?

I did get some fat quarters that I needed, a couple of books and a quilt pattern.

Blocks, Mistakes and a Secret

Here, finally, is my July Craftsy Block:

I like this block because it looks 3D.  The 3D effect is created by the way the color values are used.   There are no Y seams in this particular piecing method used for the block.  It is 60 degree triangles and diamonds which means bias edges.   August's block will have to wait until September.

Here is another block that I paper pieced:

Love the pattern (by Piece By Number), A Circle of Geese.  I do not like how it turned out with all the black, busy fabric.  Will definitely make this block again with different fabrics and colors!  This was a fun experiment with Modern Bliss fabric.

My friend Jessica @ Sew Patched Up has asked me to test out a pattern that she designed.  Of course, I was so excited!  Motivated me to use that layer cake of Cuzco I've had stashed for a while.  I have been working on this quilt and am getting close to having the top finished.  I won't say anything more but here is a picture of some of chain piecing:

Quilted and Bound

Here are some pictures of the Good Luck quilt after being washed and dried.  I love the crinkly look! I do not prewash my fabrics, use cotton thread and batting so the quilt will shrink with the first wash and dry.  I used Quilter's Dream deluxe batting with the quilt.  It shows the quilting more.  It is  loftier and heavier as well.

Owlivia Quilt

It's been gray, cloudy and stormy today.  I've been inside working on my Grandaughter's Owlivia quilt all day.  The owl blocks are machine appliqué and embroidery.  Each block took about an hour to do, so 5 hours total.

The pattern is Framed and is one by Camille Roskelley in her book Simply Retro.  It uses a layer cake and 2 1/2" strips.

My go to design consultant (hah!) said it was one of his favorites of all the quilts I've made so far.

Here are the first 3 rows sewn together.  There are 5 total making the quilt 63" x 63".  I will add some borders to make it a twin size.  I will post pics when it is quilted and done.

Easy as ABC Quilt Along Month #2

Here are my finished blocks for F, G, H, I, and J.  I am really enjoying getting the fat quarter packs picked out by Sew Lux Fabric.   And I have some good sized leftovers for my stash!

Finished!

Yay!  I have some finishes checked off!  Whoohoo!

I actually made two Seahorses to donate for the charity our Modern Quilt Guild sponsors.  That is really something for me because I don't like to hand sew.  : )

Cute aren't they?

~The Good Luck quilt is quilted, trimmed and waiting for binding.

~Oh the Places You'll Go! is on the frame being quilted with an edge to edge pattern.

~12 Tula Pink blocks for July and August are made. (Pics to follow.)

~Owlivia quilt is almost cut out and in the process of embroidering some cute Owlivias!

MUCH, much more to do!  I love it, though.  Productive, creative chaos!

Working on Good Luck!

Can one really work on good luck?  I don't think so.  I am talking about my Good Luck quilt.  Right now, she is in the process of being quilted by Betsy the longarm.  (Please check out my Creekside Quilting blog.)

I am having a lot of fun!  But boy, am I busy!  I would love to quit my day job.  That one pays the bills, so I won't be anytime soon.  : (

I am also working on my July and August Tula Pink 100 Modern Blocks.  Will post more later.
