Oh the Places You'll Go

It is a gorgeous, hot, summer day here!   Too nice to be inside!  (So, thanks to technology, I am outside while doing this.). Among other things, here is what I've been working on.  I didn't particularly like the pattern on Robert Kaufman's site, so I made some changes.  I will add a 2" finished white inner border with a larger outer border.  This will be twin size when finished and for my Grandson.

UFO's, FAL's and what I did instead...

Okay, my list of unfinished projects (UFO's) is getting longer.  Instead of working on them, I decided to make this instead.  It is a very cute kit from Sew Lux Fabric that I received with an order from them.  It went together very quickly!  I used their tutorial for the self-binding technique as I hadn't ever done binding that way before.

The kit did make two and I had both done in less than an hour.

My UFO's, FAL's are:

Swoon Quilt (make at least 3 blocks this quarter)
July Tula Pink Modern Blocks with Tula Pink Fabric
July Craftsy BOM
Glimma Quilt (Finish this quarter!!)
Dr. Suess Grandson Quilt
My Husband's Winter Solstice Quilt (yes, from 2012)
Tumbling Blocks Quilt
FMQ the Good Fortune Quilt
Stuffed Sea Horse for Charity

Not started but need to get them done:

Owlivia Quilt
Dr. Suess Granddaughter Quilt
Modern Bliss Quilt
Happy Go Lucky Hash Tag Quilt
Cuzco Quilt

I am aiming high!

Tula Pink Modern Blocks for June and July

Yesterday and today, I worked on my Architextures Tula Pink Modern Blocks.  I have 30 finished.  When I have 70 finished, I will make the quilt on pages 228-233 of Tula Pink's City Sampler 100 Modern Quilt Blocks.  I also want to FMQ the blocks as shown in the book.  I mean what goes together better than a City and Architextures?  Seriously.

Here are June's blocks - 2, 12, 22, 32, 42, 52, 62, 72, 82 & 92:

And July's blocks - 3, 13, 23, 33, 43, 53, 63, 73, 83 & 93:

Caught up now!  That is a good feeling.  Going to take the afternoon and go sit in the sun.

Easy as ABC QAL Month One

I have been out of town.  I didn't get to sew anything while I was gone BUT I did visit some very cool quilt shops!  I had a great time the last part of my trip visiting with my son-in-law, daughter and grandbabies.  Oh, I had so much fun!  Plus, I get to make a couple of special quilts for my grandson and granddaughter.  I love that!  Since my grandson is so into his ABC's, guess who is getting the ABC quilt?

Sew today, hah, I sat down and got busy with the Easy As ABC QAL with Blossom Heart Quilts:

I got the fat quarter pack along with the border material from Sew Lux Fabric.  I love the fat quarters that they picked out and sent!  If you haven't joined yet, there is time.  This is going to be a lot of fun!

Different Craftsy BOM's for June - Which one?

Here is the Craftsy block for the month of June.  I redid it in different colors and made it by sewing two strips together and cutting them on a 45 degree angle:

There are no Y-seams in this block.

Here is the one that I did previously with half square triangles:

Which one do you like better?

It's mid July and I still have the one from July to make.

Lucky Pinwheels Quilt

Here is the finished Lucky Pinwhells Quilt!  Front:

And the back:

The fabric used is from my Heather Bailey stash that I love!  The pattern is Carnival from JayBird Quilts.  I made this quilt for a very special person.  She was so excited when I gave it to her yesterday!  I know she will love it.  The quilting is straight line, stitch in the ditch following the geometric shapes of the block designs.

Tula Pink 100 Modern Blocks BOM

Happy 4th of July!   Hope everyone is having a fun, sunny and safe day!

I am catching up with my Architexture June blocks!  I decided to make July's at the same time.  That means 20 blocks with the Architexture fabric line and 10 with the Tula Pink fabrics.  Guess I'll be busy.  Thank goodness that some of them sew up pretty quickly!  The ones with quite a few itty bitty pieces take some time.  Then there is deciding which fabrics to use - although that is one of the best parts.

I've got other projects from the 2nd Quarter that are still unfinished, not just the June blocks for the Fearless Fabric Fiends Flickr Group.  I will post that list later.  A post about them will be good reminder for me to get them done and crossed off the list!

July Blocks of the Month

I really like doing BOM's - Blocks of the Month.  It gives me a whole month to finish one block.  There are different blocks every month, usually something I haven't done yet.  Keeps it fresh, challenging and fun.

Hop, Skip & Jump BOM, Block #2 with SewLuxFabric.com, Flickr Group:

I found this particular block quite challenging.  Had to use the seam ripper a few times.  It isn't perfect, but that's okay.  I love the Happy Go Lucky fabric line!

The next block I made is for our BOM swap with the Coastal Carolina Modern Quilt Guild.  We each pick 4 one yard cuts of fabric, put it in a unused pizza box, and swap it every month with another member.  We make our very first 12.5" unfinished block for ourselves.  At the end of the year, we get our pizza box back with our own and 11 different blocks made by those in our guild.  Fun!  I got my fabrics, all Sketch solids and made the first block.  Here it is:

I pressed all the seams open (which I don't usually do).  Matching seams is harder for me to do with pressed open seams.  I squared up each individual HST (half square triangle).  This helped and I think the block turned out great.  I am going through a phase of navy, pinwheels and stars.  Maybe it's not a phase?  Excited to see what the other guild members come up with for their first block!

I do have a finish from June that I can't post yet.  I love how it turned out!  It will be a gift and I hope she loves it!  Yes, I do want to keep it, but I can't keep every quilt I make!  I'd run out of room for more stash to make more quilts...  : )
