TGIFF - A Lil Monster Quilt!

It's a Friday of sorts Saturday finish!  The quilting was finished last night with the binding being hand sewn on this morning.

A coworker asked me a couple of weeks ago to please make a quilt for her niece.  She needed it for the shower today.  She apologized for the short notice, but I assured her I would get it done.  Can you say, "just barely?"  I totally do this to myself.  Do you ever say "yes" when the word really needs to be "no"?  Thought so.  But I digress...

Her niece has done the baby boy's room in a cute lil monster theme.  I searched on the internet and found these adorable fabrics (perfect!) on etsy.  The fabric line is Monster Mash by Heather Rosas for Camelot Fabrics.  There were nine different fabrics, so I went with a scrappy nine patch layout. Plus, a scrappy nine patch goes together pretty fast.

Isn't that it adorable?!?  I love how the monsters are peeking out behind the chairs, lamps, TV and the door.  Great colors for a little baby boy's room.

The batting is Quilter's Dream 100% cotton and it is quilted with an E2E called Maze by Wasatch Quilting.  I used 100% cotton, 40 wt. King Tut thread in Karnak color.  The size is 39" x 46".

Sunday Stash #10

Let me start off with Scrumptious by Bonnie and Camille.  Can't wait to make a Granny Squares Quilt with these and another little project.  (There is NO fabric dieting going on here!  I am already on a gluten free diet - a girl's gotta have something!)

I also couldn't pass up on some charm square packs of Kate Spain's Daydream.

When I was out visiting my Dad and family in Utah, I stopped in at My Girlfriend's Quilt Shoppe and picked up a couple of low volume prints for my stash.

Sun Print by Alison Glass and a Timeless Treasures print.  I have no idea what I am going to do with these but you just never know!

Lil Monster - WIP

I was out in Utah this past weekend.  No sewing was done.  I did take some time to visit a couple of quilt/fabric stores while out there.  I scored a couple of pieces of fabric while out there.  Before I left, I was asked to make a baby boy quilt before March 27.  The theme of the baby's room is little monsters.  I found some cute fabric on etsy and got it ordered.  It was waiting for me when I got home late Monday night.

I decided to do a scrappy nine patch with the 9 different fabrics.

Fun, easy and adorable!

My husband also got me 2 sheets of foam insulation while I was gone for my new design wall.  Pinned the batting on one last night.  This is a great design wall!  Totally lightweight and portable.  Now I can have a design wall and still have access to my closet!

Sunday Stash #9

I have to admit, I was on the fence about this line of fabric, Fox Fields.  Tula Pink is one of my favorite fabric designers.  That being said, I don't automatically love every line.  But now that I have the FQ bundle in my hot, little hands, I must say that I am smitten!  I had to pet refold the FQ's, so please ignore the creases.  My love hate expensive steam iron is in the shop while still under warranty so no pressing was done.

Love the detail in the chevron pattern!

Love the Hoppy Dot!

The Geo fabrics are some of my most favorites ever!  (For now, anyway.). Photos do not give these fabrics justice!

Sewing mini blocks done!

This finish is a good one because the pieces have been waiting and waiting for me to get them sewn into blocks.  I am so happy to have these blocks done!  It will be a wall hanging when it is completely finished for my sewing room.  Urban Threads has this embroidery design that has to be put on it!  I am sure that some will recognize this pattern from Sew Lux as their anniversary BOW.

Keep calm and sew on!  Linking up with TGIFF at Quilt Matters.

Sunday Stash #8 - Springing Forward

Where I live, it IS still Sunday!  In other time zones, maybe not.  I added some gorgeous solids to my stash.  They coordinate with Anna Maria Horner's Dowry fabric line.

If you want some of these beauties, please click here to one of many of my favorite online fabric stores, Westwood Acres Fabric.

I also added two charm packs of Anna Maria Horner's True Colors.  I LOVE these too!

The hardest part might be untying these two!

Here are the solids next to Dowry (and some Little Folks voile).  LOVE!  Still have no idea what to do with these.  I do love looking at them in their cubby!  Add so much cheery color to my sewing room.

Blissful Ballerina Quilt Top Done

It has been a tough, long week.  Lots going on.  I don't want to go into boring too much detail, but I may be taking a trip out to Utah.  Not for anything fun or for sewing ... but there is an awesome quilt shop where I will be.

When the going gets tough, I quilt!  Seriously.  Quilting is a sort of therapy for me (I am certain there is a blog with a similar title).  And wha la!  I have something to show for all that desperately needed therapeutic time.  A finished quilt top!

Here is Blissful Ballerina!  (Thanks for the input with the name.)

Modern Bliss has the softer tones as well as the dramatic brights.  The soft tones help to balance the dramatic, saturated tones.  I started this Tuesday after work.  So it went pretty fast.  There is some matching of seams and points when sewing the columns together.  That took some pinning and time as I pressed the seams open to prevent knots where the six points come together.  I had enough fabric to go 4 rows across and 5 rows down.  The ending size is 72" by 84".  I wanted something big enough to be a bedspread for the futon in the sewing room.  The pattern is Ballerina by Jaybird Quilts.  The ruler needed with this pattern is this one by Creative Grids.  Looking forward to long arm quilting the hexies on this one!

Happy Friday!  Linking up to TGIFF over at Sew Giving this week.

WIP - Blissful Ballerina or Flower Power?

This is a stash of fat quarters (Modern Bliss by Andie Hanna) that I have had for a while - almost a year. I couldn't make up my mind what to make with them. Or I had something else that had to be finished first.  This afternoon, I said to heck with it, pulled out my Ballerina quilt pattern by Jaybird Quilts and started cutting.  I thought I'd make a shortcut by sewing the two strips together first.  Um, don't do that with this pattern. Fortunately, I found that out after just one block.

This is what I have so far:

Very modern and bright!   My question:  Should the name of the quilt be Blissful Ballerina or Flower Power? (Please try and ignore all the threads stuck to my soon to be replaced design wall.  Even a sticky roller thingy won't get them off.)  I am hoping to have the top finished by Friday.  The pattern is really quite easy and fast to put together.  The background fabric is Bella solid Zen.  (Blissful Zen quilt?  Modern Zen?)

For my Birthday last year, I got this gorgeous wall hanging and these two fun pillows from Jessica.  Such saturated, bright colors!  Which I LOVE.

(Why, yes, that is my Cuzco quilt right behind the pillows.)  Linking up with WIP Wednesday @ Freshly Pieced Modern with guest host Stephanie from Quarter Incher.

Sunday Stash #7

I don't know about y'all, but I am starting to call #thegreatfabricdestash #thegreatDECASH instead! Fabric diet??  Oh no, not in my sewing room.  The package I got yesterday from the U.S.P.S. had been opened and then retaped shut.  Was the flat rate envelope damaged in transit...or are the U.S.P.S. getting suspicious of all the packages coming here?

Anyhoo, here is the latest addition to my stash...

Yes, those are the pearl bracelets in metallic!  I didn't know if I'd like those or not but after seeing them in person...LOVE!

Some ROY G. BIV for those who are in love with him.

And yardage of the text print in Collage.

No ideas yet of what to do with these, but not to worry.  I will think of something!
