Blissful Ballerina Quilt Top Done

It has been a tough, long week.  Lots going on.  I don't want to go into boring too much detail, but I may be taking a trip out to Utah.  Not for anything fun or for sewing ... but there is an awesome quilt shop where I will be.

When the going gets tough, I quilt!  Seriously.  Quilting is a sort of therapy for me (I am certain there is a blog with a similar title).  And wha la!  I have something to show for all that desperately needed therapeutic time.  A finished quilt top!

Here is Blissful Ballerina!  (Thanks for the input with the name.)

Modern Bliss has the softer tones as well as the dramatic brights.  The soft tones help to balance the dramatic, saturated tones.  I started this Tuesday after work.  So it went pretty fast.  There is some matching of seams and points when sewing the columns together.  That took some pinning and time as I pressed the seams open to prevent knots where the six points come together.  I had enough fabric to go 4 rows across and 5 rows down.  The ending size is 72" by 84".  I wanted something big enough to be a bedspread for the futon in the sewing room.  The pattern is Ballerina by Jaybird Quilts.  The ruler needed with this pattern is this one by Creative Grids.  Looking forward to long arm quilting the hexies on this one!

Happy Friday!  Linking up to TGIFF over at Sew Giving this week.

WIP - Blissful Ballerina or Flower Power?

This is a stash of fat quarters (Modern Bliss by Andie Hanna) that I have had for a while - almost a year. I couldn't make up my mind what to make with them. Or I had something else that had to be finished first.  This afternoon, I said to heck with it, pulled out my Ballerina quilt pattern by Jaybird Quilts and started cutting.  I thought I'd make a shortcut by sewing the two strips together first.  Um, don't do that with this pattern. Fortunately, I found that out after just one block.

This is what I have so far:

Very modern and bright!   My question:  Should the name of the quilt be Blissful Ballerina or Flower Power? (Please try and ignore all the threads stuck to my soon to be replaced design wall.  Even a sticky roller thingy won't get them off.)  I am hoping to have the top finished by Friday.  The pattern is really quite easy and fast to put together.  The background fabric is Bella solid Zen.  (Blissful Zen quilt?  Modern Zen?)

For my Birthday last year, I got this gorgeous wall hanging and these two fun pillows from Jessica.  Such saturated, bright colors!  Which I LOVE.

(Why, yes, that is my Cuzco quilt right behind the pillows.)  Linking up with WIP Wednesday @ Freshly Pieced Modern with guest host Stephanie from Quarter Incher.

Sunday Stash #4

In May of 2013, I made a quilt with Tula Pink's Salt Water charm packs (Fair Winds and Following Seas).  This one was made with 2 charm packs, some vanilla couture cotton solid, and quilted on my regular sewing machine.  I loved the quilt, wanted to keep it, but gave it away.

Fast forward to #thegreatfabricdestash  - I bet you know already what Sunday Stash #4 is.

Yes, Salt Water fat quarters, yardage and solids!  This quilt I will keep!  For ME!  Bwaaaahaaaaa!

The blues:

The navy Seaweed and Submarines is one of my most favorite!  Got lots of yardage in that.

The greens:

The corals:

Gorgeous!  The solids are from Hawthorne Threads.

I plan on making this quilt, Ballerina, by Jaybird Quilts. Can't wait to get started but I have a few other projects I really need to finish up.  Things are getting crossed off my list of FAL's.  Whoo hoo!

Linking up now to Kate Quilts who is hosting the Sunday Stash this week for Molli Sparkles.  Thanks Kate!  Wonder if Molli got some great fabric from Japan?
